Who is EMFAiF for?

The course is aimed at training support staff to assist medical staff both in training and during competition.

Sporting situations usually require a team of six to deal with a scenario effectively, with most clubs providing only one or two medical staff per event, and so it's important to have a range of first aiders for additional support.

It would be beneficial, although not compulsory, to have completed Introduction to First Aid in Football and Emergency First Aid in Football prior as we assume a level of knowledge for basic first aid, the below are other suggested prior learning opportunities:

  • Previous first aid qualification or higher
  • Newly qualified GMC doctor or therapist (HCPC, SoST, BASRAT)
  • Sports science disciplines
  • Strength and conditioning coaches
  • Masseuse
  • Stretcher bearers
  • Coaches who may assist medical staff on game day
  • Those with a specialist interest in knowledge improvement

The qualification is compulsory for Step 3 and Step 4 of the National League System.
